Ruth Tomlinson

Ruth Tomlinson is the creator of the Ruth Tomlinson jewelry brand.

Ruth Tomlinson is an independent British contemporary fine jewelry brand creating ethereal jewels imbued with an otherworldly sense of a bygone era. She celebrates an alternative to the traditional by creating jewelry that is beautifully designed, skillfully crafted, has a sense of enchantment, and is a touch of the unexpected. Each piece is as unique as the individual who wears it, inspiring a life-lasting connection between the wearer and their jewels.

Ruth is driven by her passion for the earth’s treasures; the magic of minutiae, tiny intricacies, small imperfections, and the individual’s search for preciousness. She seeks out the unconventional beauty within and this fuels her creativity, whether in the rarity of material or a curiosity in nature.

Ruth's inspiration is drawn from both the mysteries of historical jewels and the ephemerality of nature's life cycles from birth to decay. Her work is often a response to my immediate environment, whether a fleeting moment on a train in India or being totally immersed in a single jewel at a local museum. Her eyes are wide open to new discoveries and she love's to observe and absorb her surroundings.

To Ruth, working with such precious materials is a privilege. Each piece of jewelry should be unique, like each of us, and this is how she wants her jewelry to make people feel.

She hope's to evoke a sense of wonder around the work; a modern British classic of the future, handcrafted and ready to be filled with its own story - throughout our lifetime and generations to come.

A graduate of London’s prestigious Royal College of Art, Ruth established the brand in 2001 and continues to investigate the unpredictable and push boundaries of

perceived preciousness in her critically acclaimed jewelry collections. She is considered by industry experts as one of the leading influences in the current generation of UK jewelry designers, and her unique designs and luxuriously wearable adornments are conceived with the notion of being treasured forever.

Our Jewelry

Each of our jewels is imbued with a sense of discovery. Drawn to the earth's natural treasures, Ruth Tomlinson is renowned for a celebration of unconventional beauty; transforming often forgotten stories of historic jewels into her signature designs, marked by their tiny granular intricacies, ethereal character, and serendipitous imperfections.

At Ruth Tomlinson, we are committed to sourcing our materials in an ethical and sustainable manner. Each jewel is entirely crafted by hand, using recycled gold and individually sourced gemstones. We deal with the same small selection of reputable diamond suppliers that we did when Ruth first started the brand in 2001. Many of the stones are antique, old cuts that have been recycled from centuries past, while others of more recent origin are sourced in the most ethical and environmentally responsible manner, adhering to the Kimberley Process.

Our Ethos

We believe that every jewel should be unique, just like each of us, the individuals who wear and enjoy them. That's why we treat our materials with respect, celebrating their particular character and highlighting their special qualities, whether these are unusual internal inclusions or the imperfect forms of hand-cut antique stones. We believe we offer a unique experience and service to our customers and we cherish the relationships we form through the jewels we share a passion for.

Our Team

We're a small team with Ruth at the helm. Working alongside Ruth in the workshop we have 3 highly skilled fine jewelry bench workers crafting the jewels with care and attention using our alternative, non-traditional production techniques. Four further members look after the business, our customers, our website, and the smooth running of our atelier. We're a hardworking bunch with a passion for what we do and how we do it!
